The Latest Trump Says He Wants To Protect The Nation

first_imgThe move is already drawing bipartisan criticism on Capitol Hill and is expected to face rounds of legal challenges. Trump told stories, without providing evidence, of horrific abuse of women being smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border. He also said the border wall would be needed to battle drug cartels as part of a “virtual invasion” from Mexico. 11:10 a.m.President Donald Trump says many other presidents have declared national emergencies. But the presidents he has cited did not use emergency powers to pay for projects that Congress wouldn’t support. The president declared a national emergency and would find other funds for the wall after expressing unhappiness about a congressional border security deal. A list compiled by the Brennan Center says Clinton declared 17 national emergencies, Bush 13 and Obama 12. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted a photo of Trump signing the declaration Friday in the moments before his scattershot Rose Garden news conference.center_img Emergency declarations by former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were overwhelmingly for the purpose of addressing crises that emerged abroad. Many blocked foreign interests or terrorist-linked entities from access to funds. Some prohibited certain imports from or investments to countries associated with human rights abuses. Trump said Friday he will use executive powers to bypass Congress, which approved far less money for border barriers than he had sought. Trump plans to siphon billions of dollars from federal military construction and counterdrug efforts for his long-promised U.S.-Mexico border wall. Families of people killed by illegal immigrants were in attendance at the news conference. Disneys Jungle Cruise footage hits D23

first_img In Jungle Cruise, @TheRock and Emily Blunt pair up for a buddy comedy of fun. You may recognize Whitehall from the Good Omens series on Amazon Prime. The journey will see them fight wild animals and compete against a rival German expedition, with Disney adding that there will be a “supernatural element.” 0 How much would you spend on Disney Plus? As @TheRock is saying he made a movie about “heroic men, kicking ass and saving the girl” Emily Blunt herself comes out in an old car, “mad” about the footage we just saw. “Did you cut that yourself?!? … Just forget everything you just saw!” #D23Expo #JungleCruise— cait petrakovitz ➡️ D23 🙌🏽💃🏽 (@misscp) August 24, 2019 41 Photos TV and Movies Culture Now playing: Watch this: The first Jungle Cruise trailer has finally launched at D23. Walt Disney Studios Disney revealed footage for the Jungle Cruise movie at D23 Expo 2019, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt in the lead roles for the Adventureland-themed movie. The footage on display definitely tips a hat to the Disney ride the story is based off of, with the cruise itself having guides like the attraction. The antagonists appear to be similar to those in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, having a kind of supernatural Davy Jones-like appearance. Johnson called Blunt’s character “the female version of Indiana Jones” in an Instagram post in June, saying she has “relentless ambition to find the one, elusive magical thing that could change humanity for the better — forever.”According to The Rock, his skipper character knows the Amazon River better than any other, and only cares about his money, his cat and his liquor.”Good luck lady in trying to change the world, and not falling for my charm,” he said. The Disney D23 Expo runs through Sunday, Aug. 25. Gold Prices Fall for 3rd Straight Day On Poor Demand Global Cues

first_imgThe weakening global trend in gold prices saw drop in prices for the third consecutive day in India. Gold prices fell further by ₹25 to ₹ 26,650 per 10 gm at the bullion market in Delhi on Monday due to poor demand from jewellers and retailers, reports DNA. Gold prices in Singapore slipped 0.4% to $1,187.27 an ounce, with Indian prices also reflecting a similar sentiment. Silver slid 0.8% $16.15 an ounce, the lowest level since 2 December. Gold prices in Singapore normally dictate price trend in India. An upswing in US employment data and a strengthening dollar has reduced gold’s appeal for investors, and the continued drop in demand from jewellers and retailers has not helped improve sentiment.Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity fell to ₹  26,650 and ₹ 26,450 per 10 gm respectively. Rendon has 9 bills pass the Legislature

first_img Lawmaker closes 2013-14 session with 6 laws on the books and 3 awaiting the governor’s approvalLate legislative nights to close out Michigan’s 2013-14 House session were productive for state Rep. Bruce Rendon, who saw one bill signed into law and three more awaiting the governor’s signature before the end of the year. “I believe this has been a good term because I was able to successfully work on issues and ideas that our local residents were having, and get them fixed,” said Rendon, R-Lake City. “There are always more items to work on, so I’ll get back on them in the new year and also continue to listen to people’s concerns to be their voice in our government.” House Bill 5472 was signed into Public Act 373 of 2014, a law creating an alternative court track docket for individuals chronically behind in child support payments. Those with eligible medical, psychological, substance abuse, illiteracy, homelessness or unemployment conditions could qualify for an alternative compliance plan. Three other bills awaiting Gov. Rick Snyder’s consideration after the Legislature’s approval include:HB 4485, which addresses insurance licensing requirements and notifications for self-storage owners who only sell policies for stored property;HB 5036, that requires Michigan community colleges to inform applicants that military, National Guard or reserve service transcripts may qualify for class credit; andHB 5743 to allow all adoption hearings to be held in the same county where parental rights were terminated so the same judge can preside over the proceedings. In total, Rendon introduced 16 bills and seven resolutions in the House during his second term in office. Previous Rendon bills signed into law include revising qualified forest property tax rules; using military experience toward building license training qualifications; restructuring the state’s snowmobile advisory council; allowing optional ORV helmet use on private property, similar to snowmobile rules; and creating a college tuition assistance program for Michigan National Guard members. His resolutions, which all passed, indicated Michigan’s support of hunting and fishing rights, gun safety, Stand4Change, Hispanic Senior Citizens Day, America Recycles Week, Sons of the American Revolution Day and Hispanic Heritage Month.
