Growing hemp industry buoyed by new stores, new laws
For shops such as Your CBD Store that pride themselves on selling high quality products, it’s a big win in an industry where transparency isn’t always the case. Earlier this year, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo introduced a bill to create higher standards for what CBD products can be sold in the state. On Monday, that bill was signed into law by Governor Cuomo. That’s the case for Your CBD Store, which opened its’ second Binghamton area location Wednesday. Assemblywoman Lupardo said this bill will help protect consumers across New York. “Eventually, they’re only going to be able to sell products that have New York standards, so those products coming in with unknown origins and unknown ingredients and bad labels, are really not going to be able to be sold in New York State because of our very high labeling standard,” Lupardo told 12 News Wednesday. (WBNG) — For a rapidly expanding industry, having clear standards and guidelines can be a big boost for business. The hemp industry has exploded across the Southern Tier over the past five years, but when growth outpaces rules it can put consumers and businesses at risk. The law mandates that each product have a QR code or similar technology that tells consumers exactly what ingredients are in the product and where they were grown.
