Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge returns to training

first_imgLiverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has taken another step towards regaining full fitness by training with the rest of his team-mates. However, Press Association Sport understands the England international trained with the full group – those not involved in internationals – at Melwood on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first time Sturridge had been part of the group since a collision with Jordon Ibe in training sidelined him in mid-October. He was monitored by medical staff during and after the session to assess how he reacted and they will continue to keep a close eye on him for the rest of the week. Klopp has resisted the temptation to try to rush back the striker – despite injuries to Danny Ings (knee ligaments) and Christian Benteke which left him with the raw Divock Origi as his only fit striker at one stage. Therefore the German is unlikely to take any chances with Sturridge ahead of Saturday’s trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City although another step forward in the player’s scheduled recovery can only be positive. Injury problems continue to beset Klopp, with captain Jordan Henderson still working his way back to fitness after an operation on a broken bone in his foot which has prevented him working with the new manager also, but he was boosted by the return to training yesterday of midfielder James Milner and winger Ibe after hamstring and knee injuries ruled them out of international duty. The 26-year-old has yet to be available to Jurgen Klopp after sustaining a knee injury on the eve of the new manager’s first match at Tottenham on October 17. Sturridge has played just 242 minutes across three matches this season after recovering from hip surgery which ruled him out of the final six weeks of the previous campaign. center_img Press Associationlast_img read more

Lakers lose another lead, lose another game, this time to Denver Nuggets

first_imgLakers forward Carlos Boozer led the way with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 10 rebounds, while guard Wayne Ellington posted 13 points on an 8-of-13 clip. But that wasn’t enough for an erratic Nick Young (12 points on 4-of-13 shooting) and poor point guard play. While Jordan Clarkson posted seven points on 3-of-11 shooting and seven assists, Jeremy Lin offset seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and four assists with five turnovers.Interestingly, Scott has mostly allowed Clarkson to close out games so the rookie guard can gain experience. But Scott went with Lin in the final 1:24. It did not work. Lawson performed his damage and Lin committed one of his turnovers. It all ended with the inevitable: another Lakers loss. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error In a season with every worst-case scenario, one trend appears to bother Lakers coach Byron Scott the most. “We’ve given away seven or eight games where we’ve had leads in the fourth quarter,” Scott said. “We just couldn’t hold on to it.”Add another one to that collection. The Lakers lost 106-96 to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at Staples Center, marking their 14th defeat in the past 15 games by finding new ways to fall apart. The Lakers (13-39) squandered a 12-point lead. Nuggets guard Ty Lawson scored eight of his team-high 32 points in the final two minutes. The Lakers also went scoreless for the final 90 seconds. last_img read more

Trade fair to boost SADC-China ties

first_img26 April 2011The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is expecting its biggest ever investment of Chinese money in the region when representatives from China’s major industries travel to South Africa for a trade forum in May.The IMEXPO SADC-China Trade Fair and Investment Forum will take place at the MTN Expo Centre in the south of Johannesburg from 18 to 20 May.The forum will see many Chinese industrialists and investors coming to the country to liaise with their Southern African counterparts and evaluate trade and investment opportunities in the region. The event follows South Africa’s inclusion and formal induction into the BRIC group of rapidly developing nations on 13 April 2011. The increasingly influential bloc includes Brazil, Russia, India and China. After the addition of South Africa, the group became known as BRICS.The expo is the brainchild of Expo International, an events company from Cape Town and its Chinese partner, COIFAIR.Multimillion-dollar investmentsAlthough the trade and investment fair will cement China’s role as South Africa’s biggest single trading partner – after it overtook both the UK and the US – the benefits of it will be felt way beyond the country’s borders.Matthews Malefane, a lobbyist and facilitator for the organisers of IMEXPO, said: “The trade fair and investment forum is highly significant as it follows hot on the heels of South Africa having become a formal member of BRIC.“It will without doubt bring demonstrable, tangible benefits to South Africa and the region. These companies and financiers across the major sectors will be actively looking to invest in those sectors in joint venture partnerships with locals and it could result in one of the biggest injections ever of Chinese money into the region.”The forum will give the 15 SADC member countries a chance to present the investment opportunities within their respective countries to their Chinese counterparts. They will focus on sectors such as energy, water sustainability, health, oil and gas, manufacturing, mining, education, agriculture, low-cost housing, textiles, construction, public transport, road and rail, harbours and pipelines, and telecoms.Malefane said: “The expo is an opportunity for all SADC countries to assemble a portfolio of their high economic impact, job-creating, investment and development projects and bring them to the table for negotiations with potential Chinese joint venture partners and get access to Chinese capital.”Some of the biggest Chinese enterprises attending the forum are the China Coal Group; the Sinopacific Ship-building Group; CRBC International, a major road and bridge-construction company; China Gezhouba, a hydro-electric company; the China International Water and Electric Corp and the China Railway Construction Corporation. There will also be 21 Chinese mining firms at the forum.Development in the regionThe SADC was preceded by the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), which was formed on 1 April 1980 in Lusaka, Zambia. After the signing of the SADC Treaty and Declaration by the heads of government of Southern African countries on 17 August 1992, in Windhoek, Namibia, the SADC became an official body. The objective of the SADCC was the political liberation of Southern Africa, while the scope of the SADC is economic integration of all Southern African countries. The SADC member states are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The SADC aims for regional cooperation to improve living standards, social justice and sustainable economic growth.First published by – get free high-resolution photos and professional feature articles from Brand South Africa’s media service.last_img read more

USDA seeks to revise schedule GLA specification for Angus certified programs

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest In response to a request from beef industry stakeholders, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is revising the live animal specification used for all Angus certified programs (Schedule GLA) to provide more objective phenotypic criteria for identifying eligible cattle. The specification is also being revised to reflect ownership by the American Angus Association, not AMS.Currently, for phenotypic requirements, cattle must be predominantly (51%) black, along with other exclusionary criteria. The proposed changes will require that cattle — evaluated phenotypically — have a main body that is solid black with no color behind the shoulder, above the flanks, or breaking the midline behind the shoulder (excluding the tail). In this pdf, additions are in yellow highlight and deletions are represented as strikethrough text (minor formatting updates are not identified). No changes are proposed for cattle qualifying by genotype. The existing Schedule GLA has served the industry well, but as cattle genetics change over time, opportunities for updates should be considered that better reflect the current populations and marketplace. Additionally, these recommended changes reflect the policies and procedures outlined in the USDA, AMS Livestock, Poultry and Seed Program’s SP-1 and SP-2 protocol documents:, specifically that AMS look to established industry standards and requirements in lieu of creating government specifications.Questions related to these proposed changes can be directed to Bucky Gwartney via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at (202) 720-1424.AMS is proposing that these changes take effect July 1, 2017.last_img read more

This App is Rated R: Mobile App Stores to Institute App Rating System

first_imgRelated Posts Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… marshall kirkpatrick Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting The CTIA Wireless Association announced this afternoon that it will add a new voluntary App Rating System to its list of industry guidelines. Participating app stores will allow parents to block access by children to apps rated suitable for adults only. It seems likely that new adult apps will thus be made available as well. From the sacred to the profane, effective content ratings and guidelines could create a safe haven for all kinds of new apps and commerce to flourish. No such ratings system has been built yet, but the organization announced today the availability of a Request for Proposals for outside vendors to build it. The guiding principle will be that app creators will submit information about the contents of their apps at the time of submission to participating app stores and then the ratings would be applied automatically. No list of which app stores will participate is available yet, but the organization’s membership includes both Apple and Google, among many others.CTIA uses the number 800,000 to reference the large number of apps at issue. That’s substantially higher than the number of apps included if you add up the iTunes and Android Marketplace numbers together (that would be 500,000). In other words, it seems that the organization is hoping or presuming that Google and Apple will participate. It seems unlikely that the system would be announced without some favorable consultation of those two most relevant members of the association. This Could Get ComplicatedWhile a system intended to protect childeren by offering app ratings sounds like a good idea, it also sounds like it could become complicated. Voluntary ratings could prove ineffective, for one thing. The line between what’s appropriate or innapropriate for children is also a subjective one. Wherever the line gets drawn regarding innapropriate content, you can probably expect someone to protest it.Dirty dirty apps don’t seem like a big problem today, either. Perhaps that’s just because there’s no way to keep the kids safe so they all get nuked from iTunes. It seems likely that app producers and marketplaces would like to draw a line in order to cash in on apps that are on the other side of it. The industry may also be creating voluntary parental control ratings proactively in order to pre-empt a non-voluntary, independent ratings system created by government or other parties. Crazy Days Are Over?In seperate but realted news, members of the US Congress today asked Apple to remove from its app store crowd-sourced traffic tracking apps that allowed users to alert eachother to the location of drunk-driving police check-points.In as much as it’s been a self-policed Wild West out there in app land so far, those days may soon come to an end. Where there is rule of law, they say, there can be scalable commerce.center_img A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#conferences#CTIA 2011#web 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Marketlast_img read more

Rating Windows for Condensation Resistance

first_img This article is only available to GBA Prime Members Condensation forms on a surface when the temperature of the surface is below the dew point of the air. During the winter, when the coldest surface in a room is often the window, it’s fairly common to see water droplets or ice on window glass — especially in a room with elevated indoor humidity.Condensation is more likely to form when indoor relative humidity is high. That’s why it’s more common to see condensation on a bathroom window than a bedroom window.Condensation is more likely to form on cold surfaces than warm surfaces. That’s why it’s more common to see condensation on a single-glazed window than a double-glazed window.Older Americans who grew up in the days of single-glazed windows remember the joy of waking up on a cold winter morning to see beautiful frost patterns — swirls, vines, and lacy leaves — on their bedroom windows. And who can forget the frost-covered windows in the Hollywood version of Dr. Zhivago? On today’s low-e windows, however, such frost patterns are extremely rare.In theory, a window with a high R-value (that is, a low U-factor) should do a good job of resisting condensation. However, even a low-U window can have a condensation problem. That’s because a window’s U-factor is an area-weighted average of the U-factors of the different window components. Window condensation is a thermal bridging problem, not an average U-factor problem. The coldest part of most modern windows is the bottom half-inch of glazing. (Although the width of the space between the panes of modern insulated glazing units has been optimized to minimize the effect of convective looping in the gas between the panes, convective looping still occurs. Naturally, the gas at the bottom of the gap — whether air or argon —… Sign up for a free trial and get instant access to this article as well as GBA’s complete library of premium articles and construction details.center_img Start Free Trial Already a member? AT&T pilots smart city projects around Chicago

Ericsson is also a technology partner on the shelters. As for the kiosks, they will feature touchscreens, USB charging ports and tourist information.  They also may include expanded information like public safety and weather alerts, along with restaurant offers.“All the pilots we’re doing are designed to keep the residents more productive and engaged as they move about town,” said Mike Zeto of AT&T’s Smart Cities program. “The goal is to help the city try out tech that will provide benefits.”She said that the city would be launching up to three prototype bus shelters and five kiosks around the city. The locations of the test beds will be announced in the coming weeks.Looking to make O’Hare smarter, tooMeanwhile, AT&T Smart Cities is expanding its presence at O’Hare International Airport. It currently is installing digital displays that show real-time ground transport information. And now it is adding a new project which will capture passenger data as they move around the airport.“We’re leveraging big data to look at the flow of people throughout the airport to help us understand where people are coming from and where they are going,” said Chicago’s Chief Information Officer Brenna Berman. “That kind of data will help the team that manages O’Hare better understand how to help the travelers at O’Hare. For example, is there a better way to manage the taxi queue?”Chicago was one of the first U.S. cities involved in AT&T’s smart cities program, announced last year.center_img Related Posts Surveillance at the Heart of Smart Cities For Self-Driving Systems, Infrastructure and In…last_img read more

Tips for Family Caregivers

first_img1. Learn to Manage StressHave you experienced any of the following symptoms recently: disturbed sleep, digestive issues, weight gain/loss, anxiety, moodiness, depression, memory problems? These are all common physical and emotional signs of stress. It is important that you learn how to manage your stress so that it does not take over your life. Something to keep in mind is that caregiving is a marathon – not a sprint, therefore, it is imperative that you learn how to manage your stress at this point in your caregiving journey, and continue to manage it throughout. What to do:Exercise regularly – Find a physical activity that you enjoy and try to be active at least 20 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week.Take a break – Use respite care to allow yourself some time away from caregiving responsibilities.Eat well – Make sure what you’re eating is healthy and is supporting your body’s needs.Ask for help – To avoid caregiver burnout, get other people involved in the caregiving responsibilities.Take care of your health – Make sure you’re seeing your doctor about yourIndulge – Do something to treat yourself. Go to a movie, get a pedicure, read a book on the patio, etc..Find support – Find a group, or someone, who understands what you’re going through to talk to.Say no – Remember that it is okay to say no to people.Maintain your sense of humor 2. Accept Help from OthersHas someone ever offered to help you, but you told them no? Caregivers often refuse help because it would take time and energy to explain how to do something, it’s frustrating when it’s not done correctly (the way you would have done it) or they feel that it would not be right to ask for or accept help from others. What to do:Ask for and accept help. You don’t have to do this all alone, but if you don’t ask for help how will your friends and family know that help is needed? Create a list of things that others can help you with, so when they ask you have something prepared.Take the time to explain to someone how to do something, if they help again you won’t have to explain it again and it will be one more thing to take off your to-do list.Accept that things won’t always be done ‘your way,’ but for every task you have help with, that is one less task for you to worry with.3. Make Time for Yourself a PriorityHave you ever gone to bed and realized that not once today did you do something to take care of yourself, or to relieve stress? Caregivers often forget that their mental and physical health is just as important as their care recipients. Whenever you put off taking care of yourself, you increase your chances of caregiver burnout, resentment, and falling ill. What to do: Establish some ‘me time’ within your day. Schedule in and make it a priority.Delegate responsibilities to others, to ensure you have time to take care of your mental and physical health. If at some point during the day you begin to feel overwhelmed, remove yourself from the situation for 5 -10 minutes to gather your thoughts and de-stress. Utilize our Mindfulness Series during this time.4. Search for and Utilize Available ResourcesHave you looked in to available resources in your area? It is all too common for family caregivers to just buckle down and take care of everything without looking in to the possibility of help. What to do: Utilize the resources below. Remember, you don’t have to do everything on your own!Resources – National Alliance for CaregivingCaregiver Action NetworkRosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving  This MFLN-Military Caregiving blog post was published on July 7, 2017.last_img read more
