Spurs eyeing Saints duo

first_img Press Association After achieving their best ever Barclays Premier League finish last season, the odds on Saints getting relegated this time around are shortening by the day. Arsenal completed the signing of highly-rated right-back Calum Chambers on Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Dejan Lovren joined Liverpool in a £20million deal. Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez are understood to be close to linking-up with former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham as Southampton’s summer sale continues. Work is afoot to bring in replacements but so far only two have arrived, with Dusan Tadic joining from FC Twente before Graziano Pelle arrived from Koeman’s former club Feyenoord. Southampton executive director Les Reed has come under fire for this summer’s transfer activity and attempted to allay fans’ fears after Chambers’ departure to Arsenal. “Our position remains unchanged in that we are determined to keep our best young players at the club, as is evidenced by the decision to award Harrison Reed a new long-term contract last week, adding to the list of committed young professionals like James Ward-Prowse, Sam Gallagher, Jack Stephens, Jordan Turnbull, Matt Targett, Sam McQueen and others who have seen plenty of first-team activity recently,” he said on the club’s official website, “We have an abundance of talent in the academy coming through, and everybody at the club is continuing to work hard on bringing in quality new players as we build a team capable of taking us further forward in the coming seasons. “It is important in the transfer window to remain calm, resilient and above all patient. We have targets, and we are working hard to get them across the line.” The Croatia international followed Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in moving to Anfield, while teenage left-back Luke Shaw recently departed for Manchester United. Those transfers came in the wake of manager Pochettino and his staff leaving for Spurs, where two of his former Saints charges could be plying their trade next term. Press Association Sport understands Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, with the pair edging closer to deals taking them to White Hart Lane. Reports suggest Saints are asking £27million for midfielder Schneiderlin, who joined the club from Strasbourg in 2008 and played a key role in their rise from League One to the top-flight. The 24-year-old represented France at this summer’s World Cup and has attracted interest from Arsenal, although he is understood to favour a move to Spurs so he can work with Pochettino again. The former Argentina international is also in for Rodriguez, despite the England forward currently being sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 24-year-old has been at St Mary’s since joining from hometown club Burnley two years ago and made his Three Lions debut in November’s friendly against Chile. Their exits would be another hammer blow to recently-appointed manager Ronald Koeman, who is also expected to sell disruptive club-record signing Dani Osvaldo in the coming weeks. last_img read more

The new date of Eibar-Real points after the semifinal of Copa

first_imgThe Gipuzkoan derby between Eibar and the Royal Society, which should have been held this Sunday in Ipurua, aims to be played from March 9, with Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11 as the first possible dates for it to be disputed . It should be remembered that this match was suspended by the Competition Committee, following the recommendations of the Basque Government Health Service, because of the poor air quality due to the fire at the Zaldibar landfill. The Basque Government recommended not to practice outdoor sports this weekend in Ermua, Zaldibar and Eibar when detecting a high level of dioxins in the air. Both clubs now have until Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. to agree on setting a new date for the match.. It is the term given by the Competition Committee, and in case they do not agree, LaLiga will enter ex officio and assign a date that it considers appropriate, already without the consent of Real and Eibar. The agreement does not seem complicated, as long as Eibar agrees to play after the Cup semifinal that Real will play in Miranda. Because before it seems impossible. The week of February 24, the Real plays on Friday (February 28), so it is difficult to dispute during the week. And then comes the semifinal of the Copa de la Real in Miranda (March 4). This means that even after the game of the Donostiarras in Anduva you could not play. And the first date to do so is March 10-11. The issue is very angry at the population of Eibar, for the delay in arriving at the preventive measures of the Basque Government, but the reality is that the health service measurements take five days to be analyzed in the CSIC. And that is the reason why the game cannot be played on Tuesday, something that was the initial intention of both clubs in case it was suspended, as it finally happened. Eibar looked for all possible ways to play the game, while Real simply waited for events, ready to abide by the decision that was made. The idea of playing on Tuesday liked it because it didn’t mean trying any calendar, nor the issue of the return of the price of tickets and because it was no problem for either club. But the air quality is not known if it has changed by Tuesday, because the following measurement data will arrive on Thursday. This means that this week it is ruled out that this Gipuzkoan derby is played.last_img read more
